If one dessert owned 2026, it was tiramisu. The Italian classic broke out of restaurants and into home kitchens everywhere — layered in glasses, baked into cakes, frozen into bars and remixed in every flavor imaginable. Search interest kept climbing all year, and the versions people saved most were the make-ahead, no-bake ones: maximum drama, minimum effort, and a texture that somehow tastes like a special occasion.
So for Christmas, here is the Tivano way to do it: one master technique, five festive personalities. The classic espresso original, a gingerbread-spiced layer cake of a dessert, a peppermint mocha for the chocolate-mint loyalists, an eggnog version that tastes like the holidays in a spoon, and a chocolate orange finale worthy of the stocking tradition. Every one is no-bake, every one improves overnight in the fridge, and every one is built from the same simple formula: mascarpone clouds, whipped cream, and something delicious to dip.
1. Classic Espresso Tiramisu
Prep: 30 minutes · Chill: 6 hours (or overnight) · Serves: 8
Ingredients
- 500 g (17.6 oz) mascarpone, room temperature
- 400 ml (1⅔ cups) double cream (heavy cream), cold
- 70 g (⅓ cup) light brown sugar
- 2 tbsp molasses (or black treacle)
- 1½ tsp ground ginger, 1 tsp cinnamon, ¼ tsp ground cloves
- 300 ml (1¼ cups) strong coffee, cooled
- 200 g (7 oz) ladyfinger biscuits, about 24 — or thin gingerbread slices
- Crushed ginger biscuits and a dusting of cinnamon, to finish
Method
1. Whisk the mascarpone with the brown sugar, molasses and spices until smooth.
2. Whip the cream to soft peaks and fold through the spiced mascarpone in two additions.
3. Pour the cooled coffee into a shallow dish. Dip the ladyfingers quickly, 1–2 seconds per side, and line your dish.
4. Layer half the cream over the biscuits, add a second dipped layer, then the remaining cream.
5. Cover and chill at least 6 hours — the spices bloom overnight and the layers set into clean slices.
6. Finish with crushed ginger biscuits and a pinch of cinnamon before serving.
3. Peppermint Mocha Tiramisu

Prep: 25 minutes · Chill: 6 hours (or overnight) · Serves: 8
Ingredients
- 500 g (17.6 oz) mascarpone, room temperature
- 400 ml (1⅔ cups) double cream (heavy cream), cold
- 80 g (⅓ cup + 1 tbsp) granulated sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 300 ml (1¼ cups) strong espresso or coffee, cooled
- 2 tbsp coffee liqueur (optional)
- 200 g (7 oz) ladyfinger biscuits (savoiardi), about 24
- Cocoa powder, for dusting
Method
1. Whisk the mascarpone, sugar and vanilla in a large bowl until smooth and loose.
2. In a separate bowl, whip the cold cream to soft peaks. Fold it through the mascarpone in two additions, keeping as much air as possible.
3. Mix the cooled espresso with the coffee liqueur in a shallow dish.
4. Dip each ladyfinger into the coffee for 1–2 seconds per side — a quick dip, never a soak — and line the base of a 20 cm (8 in) square dish.
5. Spread over half the cream, add a second layer of dipped ladyfingers, then the rest of the cream. Smooth the top, cover and chill at least 6 hours.
6. Dust generously with cocoa powder just before serving.
2. Gingerbread Tiramisu
Prep: 25 minutes · Chill: 6 hours (or overnight) · Serves: 8
Ingredients
- 500 g (17.6 oz) mascarpone, room temperature
- 400 ml (1⅔ cups) double cream (heavy cream), cold
- 80 g (⅓ cup + 1 tbsp) granulated sugar
- 2 tbsp cocoa powder, plus more for dusting
- ½ tsp peppermint extract (not mint — peppermint)
- 300 ml (1¼ cups) strong espresso, cooled
- 200 g (7 oz) chocolate ladyfingers or regular ladyfingers, about 24
- 4 candy canes, crushed, to finish
Method
1. Whisk the mascarpone, sugar, cocoa and peppermint extract until smooth — taste: the mint should be present but not toothpaste-strong.
2. Whip the cream to soft peaks and fold through in two additions.
3. Dip the ladyfingers quickly in the cooled espresso and line the dish.
4. Spread over half the mocha cream, add a second layer of dipped biscuits, then the rest of the cream.
5. Chill at least 6 hours, covered.
6. Dust with cocoa and scatter the crushed candy canes over the top only at serving time — they melt into pink streaks if added early, which is pretty, but the crunch is better fresh.
4. Eggnog Tiramisu
Prep: 30 minutes · Chill: 6 hours (or overnight) · Serves: 8
Ingredients
- 500 g (17.6 oz) mascarpone, room temperature
- 400 ml (1⅔ cups) double cream (heavy cream), cold
- 80 g (⅓ cup + 1 tbsp) granulated sugar
- Finely grated zest of 2 oranges
- 100 g (3.5 oz) dark chocolate, melted and cooled slightly
- 240 ml (1 cup) fresh orange juice mixed with 120 ml (½ cup) espresso, cooled
- 200 g (7 oz) ladyfinger biscuits, about 24
- Chocolate shavings and extra zest, to finish
Method
1. Whisk the mascarpone, sugar and orange zest until smooth. Drizzle in the melted chocolate and whisk until evenly marbled through — work quickly so it doesn't seize.
2. Whip the cream to soft peaks and fold through in two additions.
3. Dip the ladyfingers in the orange-espresso mixture, 1–2 seconds per side, and line the dish.
4. Layer half the cream, a second layer of biscuits, then the remaining cream.
5. Chill at least 6 hours, covered.
6. Finish with chocolate shavings and a little fresh zest. This one tastes like the chocolate orange from the toe of the stocking — only softer, creamier and made for a spoon.
The Bottom Line
One technique, five Christmas desserts, zero oven time. Make the classic if your table is traditional, the eggnog if you want the room to go quiet, and the peppermint mocha if there are candy canes to use up. All five hold happily for two days in the fridge, which makes them the smartest dessert decision of the season: make it on the 23rd, dust it on the 25th, and take the compliment like you worked all day.

Ingredients
- 500 g (17.6 oz) mascarpone, room temperature
- 350 ml (1½ cups) double cream (heavy cream), cold
- 60 g (¼ cup + 1 tsp) granulated sugar
- 120 ml (½ cup) good eggnog, plus 240 ml (1 cup) extra for dipping
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ tsp freshly grated nutmeg, plus more to finish
- 1 tbsp dark rum or bourbon (optional)
- 200 g (7 oz) ladyfinger biscuits, about 24
Method
1. Whisk the mascarpone, sugar, vanilla, nutmeg and the 120 ml eggnog until smooth.
2. Whip the cream to soft peaks and fold through in two additions.
3. Stir the dipping eggnog with the rum (if using) in a shallow dish. Dip each ladyfinger briefly — eggnog soaks in fast, so one second per side is plenty.
4. Build two layers of dipped biscuits and cream in your dish, finishing with cream.
5. Cover and chill at least 6 hours.
6. Grate fresh nutmeg over the top just before serving — the aroma is the whole point.
5. Chocolate Orange Tiramisu
